It’s that time of the year where we start to reflect on the year that’s been while looking towards the year to come.
We saw Pantone's release of Ultra Violet as their colour forecast of 2018, we’ve seen blush pink slowly morph into a warmer nude, we’ve seen bold botanicals in full force taking on the dark and moody florals. Tropical animals have made their way into our homes while our love for artisanal goods and the handmade touch has steadily increased. Linen and velvet has risen to the top proving they are worth our attention both in our homes and on our bodies.
Every year we look forward to the release of the Dulux Colour Forecast. This year is the year of the ‘Filter’. Interpret that how you wish, however, regardless it is so fitting for most of us in 2018 and through to 2019.
“When the world is so busy and the influences so many, how do we filter out the noise and focus on what really matters?”
The four key elements to this concept are Repair, Wholeself, Legacy and Identity. The colours are intended to represent the trends and global movements of our present social climate.
Repair represents our need “to revive our relationship with nature and embrace a more holistic and ‘circular’ way of living. Our comfortable, carefree existence begins to fade into the past, as we adopt a wabi-sabi sensibility that appreciates the beauty in faults and flaws.”
Wholeself looks towards “switching off the smartphone and clear out the mental clutter. Wholeself helps us to create a calm, distraction-free zone where we can dial back the volume and reconnect with ourselves.”
Legacy sees us considering the future and what we leave for future generations. “What is the legacy we leave behind? Every day we tread the tightrope of time, pulled forward by hot, new trends and futuristic technologies. But there’s no ignoring our past, the ultimate symbol of elegance and time-honoured tradition. Legacy brings the past and present into timeless harmony with an eclectic mix of influences.”
Identity gives us the excuse we’ve all been waiting for. “It’s time to break out of the mould and show us the real you. Identity speaks to the radical, non-conformist in us all. It empowers us to live on the wild side and express our true inner creative.”
