Reno Rumble: Mid-Century Modern Style
This week on Reno Rumble, the Redbacks have been tasked with creating a mid-century modern styled home for their homeowners. Inspired by this week’s brief, I decided to do my own research into this iconic style. Renowned for its sleek and simple finish, check out our top tips for achieving this classic style in your own home:
- The mid-century modern era was a time when the world first started moving towards the idea of minimalism. As such, mid-century modern style is all about clean-lined furniture, smooth curves, and visual simplicity.
- The beauty of mid-century modern style is that it doesn’t require extensive renovations or cost. Mid-century modern style can be achieved by adding just a few iconic pieces to a modern living room, bedroom or dining space.
- When it comes to the colour palette, a mid-century modern space works well with a neutral base. Add interest and colour to a space with wood panelling (oh so mid-century!), statement chairs, and vivid furnishings.
- Bold, geometric patterns and intricate designs are an integral part of mid-century modern style and can be incorporated through curtains, cushions, and feature wallpaper. However, these bold patterns should complement the clean look of the room and add a little contrast, rather than taking over completely.
- The mid-century modern period produced some of the most iconic light fixtures in history, so there are plenty of options to choose from. A mid-century styled lamp will add a lot more than just illumination to a space, and will be a key part of your design.
- Finally, don’t forget the iconic bar cart! It can be wheeled from room to room for parties and entertaining, and is the perfect accessory for every mid-century modern home.
